Challenges Encountered and the Performance of Grade 3 Teachers in the Implementation of K -12: Basis for Plan of Actions

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of the study was to find out the challenges encountered and the performance of Grade 3 teachers in the Division of Lipa City after the K -12 implementation. The challenges encountered by the teachers serve as the main focus of the study along with other fields of inquiry such as the medium of instruction, lesson planning, learning by doing approach, availability of instructional materials, and monitoring of progress and failure of pupils. On the other hand, for the performance of the teachers, it is in terms of communication, instructional presentation, instructional materials, and equipment, classroom and time management, professional knowledge, assessment and adherence to K -12 curriculum were identified. Findings will be used as the basis for a plan of action.

METHODS

It employed the descriptive and inferential methods of research in analyzing the data. The study used 155 Grade 3 teachers from the 57 elementary schools in the North, East, West and South Districts from the Division of Lipa City, Batangas. The focus of the study is on the teachers who had implemented the K-12 curriculum to the Grade 3 pupils for the whole school year of 2014 -2015. To analyze and interpret the data gathered from the respondents, the researcher used the following statistical treatment of data: frequency count, percentages, ranking, and weighted mean.

RESULTS

The study revealed that the perceived challenges that the teachers are facing in the implementation of K -12 do not affect their performance. There is no significant difference in the assessment of the teachers on the challenges encountered in the implementation of K -12 across the different districts in the Division of Lipa City and there is no significant difference in the assessment of the school head -respondents on teachers' performance in the implementation of K -12 across the different districts in the Division of Lipa City. However, as educators, it is necessary to follow and adjust to the different challenges to improve their level of performance.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the findings, it is recommended that teachers should coordinate with the Department of Education and administrations to lessen the challenges that they may encounter. Training and continuous close monitoring method can help them improve their level of performance.
