Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Teaching is one of the most complicated jobs in the Philippines today and teaching the subject Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) is even more challenging than any other subject from the K-12 curriculum.

TLE is a set of subjects included in the elementary school curriculum. It is synonymous to Edukasyong Pangkabuhayan at Pangkaunlaran (EPP) which has four components: Home Economics, Agriculture. Industrial Arts, Entrepreneurship and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Hence, this study aimed to determine the challenges met by the TLE teachers of San Miguel Elementary School.

METHODS

This study was undertaken to determine its depths and how the researcher can be of help to the TLE teachers to overcome problems. By working out recommendations, the burden of TLE teachers, especially in using remedial pressure in the absence of facilities or equipment, would be lessened.

RESULTS

Based on the study, teachers met these difficulties in teaching the four components in EPP:

No laboratory shop

Lack of tools and equipment

50% of the available materials in a school are no longer functional

Lack of relevant seminars and training for TLE teachers

DISCUSSIONS

The researcher found out that the teachers of EPP/TLE need a laboratory shop room, tools, additional equipment, and materials so that the teaching and their teaching activities will be more challenging and effective.
