Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The study tried to uncover the causes of early pregnancy among the students of General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School enrolled in the open high school program for the school year 2017 -2018.

METHODS

To gather the needed data, the researcher used purposive sampling, interview and descriptive method of research. The respondents of the study were teenage mom students enrolled in the open high school program of the school who were willing to answer the questions honestly. The researcher used a recorder to record the oral responses to be sure that no single detail was left out.

RESULTS

The result of the study showed that the root causes of teenage pregnancies were lack of sex education, parental guidance, depression, stress, family problem, peer pressure, curiosity, broken family, and rebellion to parents. Majority of teenage moms considered teenage pregnancy a mistake and also a blessing.

DISCUSSIONS

The findings of the study showed that the respondents experienced difficult times in handling the situation they are in. The study also showed that parents still extended support to their daughter despite the mistakes they made. Programs that will help prevent teen pregnancy should be created by the school thru the guidance office with the parents as partners.
