Abstract

INTRODUCTION

It is observed that many Grade III pupils incur absences at least once a week. It is for this reason that this study was conducted to determine the causes of absenteeism of the pupils and to find solutions to this problem to minimize, if not eradicate, the problem of absenteeism among Grade III pupils in Parang E/S.School absenteeism is one problem a teacher may have to tackle in one school year. Its effects include low performance in school, non-acceptance by peers, and inability to join school activities which may further result in the dropping out of the student.

METHODS

This study was conducted using the descriptive survey method. Students were asked to answer a questionnaire. This questionnaire was prepared to gather data on the study.

RESULTS

Being lazy is an attitude that may be acquired as one grows up in an environment where laziness is tolerated. Helping children understand that lazy people will never achieve great things in life.

Students should be taught to become more responsible. They should be taught that education is coupled with responsibility. If they really want to learn, they must do their part.

Teachers should inculcate in their minds the importance of education. Their success in school is dependent on their personal attitudes. Positive attitudes will motivate them to love going to school in spite of discomforts. Negative attitudes will prevent them from going to school in spite of good factors.

DISCUSSIONS

The personal attitude which is being lazy to go to school is the most prevalent reason for absences in the school of Grade III pupils. This is the one reason which is hard to solve since it requires a change in the personal character comes from within one's self which is at the time no longer within the bound of teachers.
