Career Choice of Grade 10 Students of San Nicolas National High School for Senior High School S.Y 2018-2019

INTRODUCTION
The enhanced K to 12 Curriculum was designed to provide a holistic education for all. Now decongested, it gave students ample time for mastering basic academic skills as well as in participating in co-curricular and community activities. However, Junior High School students face one of the most crucial decisions in their lives and that is a future career decision. This study dealt with the assessment of the different factors that affect the decision of Grade 10 students in choosing their strand in senior high school. The profile of the respondents, level of interest on the different strands, and the difficulties encountered by Grade 10 students were also considered in this study.
METHODS
The research made use of the descriptive method of research utilizing a self-made questionnaire as the main data gathering instrument. The respondents of the study were 60 Grade 10 students of San Nicolas National High School. Simple random sampling was used to identify the respondents. Mean, weighted mean, and composite mean were the statistical tools applied to treat the gathered data.
RESULTS
The findings revealed that majority of the respondents were female and had a family income of Php 5,000.00 -Php 10,000.00. The students were also interested in Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) and Technical Vocational Strand. The findings further revealed that personal skills and talents were the factors that the respondents considered in choosing their future strand in senior high school. Majority of the respondents also agreed that they encountered difficulties in choosing the right strand in senior high school. Based on the data fear of failure, financial problems and decisions of parents were some of these problems.
DISCUSSIONS
On the basis of the analysis made, it was recommended that the school should intensify the institution's Career Guidance Program to help students clearly decide the career and strand they will take in senior high school. The students, together with the parents, should also be encouraged to participate in different career programs and activities held by the school to guide them on their decisions regarding their career choice.
