INTRODUCTION
The adolescent, in creating an identity for himself, is faced with an urgent need to identify his/her course in college and establish a career path for the future. Given that the school year 2018-2019 is the second batch of senior high school graduates, the researchers have decided to conduct a study on the career choice influence among them. This study was conducted to determine which factors affect the career choice of G12 -Local Guiding Students in Emiliano Tria Tirona National High School.
METHODS
A simple random sampling method was used in the study. A total of 17 Local Guiding students were included as respondents in the study. The researchers conducted the survey using the career choice questionnaire adopted from http://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/ bitstream/10603/154876/16/16_appendix%20i.pdf. This had been modified to meet the objectives of the study.
RESULTS
Based on the majority of the results, the respondents revealed that they are likely to be independent in making their career decisions. However, the respondents were also found to seek their parents', friends' and industry professionals' advice. They also have an average response of "agree", claiming that they make their decisions based on the perks and benefits of the job such as career growth and opportunities, innovation and creativity in the job. Meanwhile, it was discovered that most of the local guiding students strongly disagree that they make their decisions on the basis of their skills, the trend in the market, and the educational qualification and background necessary for the job. It was found that the security associated with the job, the lifestyle associated with it, and the satisfactions do not matter as a basis in making their career choice.
DISCUSSIONS
It can be seen that based on the results, students are still likely to honor their parents' advice and input with regards to their future career. Having said this, it is recommended that parents must also take part and be knowledgeable of the possible career options that their children can consider. For the students, it is advised that they make the decision not only based on other people's advice but also on what they think will give them long term job satisfaction. It is further recommended that respective secondary institutions conduct intensive career orientations among graduating students.
