Bullying Interventions at Palahanan Elementary School: Examining Local Practices Towards Crafting a Collaborative School Prevention Management Plan

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Bullying is one of the major problems of schools, a playground hazard. It is an everlasting problem affecting the lives of school kids. It includes verbal and physical assaults and also threats. Bullying is difficult to eradicate in schools because it is often effectively used by pupils. Time will come that there will be an increasing awareness that bullying can affect anyone, of whatever age or grade level of pupils. With this action research, the school can come up with a school prevention management plan.

METHODS

The descriptive method of research is employed with the use of questionnaires in gathering data. Twenty school guidance counselor and twenty school heads from public elementary schools of San Juan West District, Division of Batangas during the school year 2018-2019 are involved as respondents of this study. The weighted mean, t-test and correlated coefficient are the statistical measures used to analyze the data

RESULTS

The study reveals the following results: (1) there are different types of bullying that results to harmful effects on pupils, (1.1) power fullness, (1.2) revenge seeking, (1.3) aggression and (1.4) jealousy; (2) the pupils’ most commonly used strategy was ignored; (3)there is a significant relationship between the perception of male and female pupils about different causes of bullying in the schools; (4) there is a significant relationship between school guidance counselor attitudes towards bullying intervention; and (5) the proposed school action plan is expected to be appropriate.

DISCUSSIONS

The results revealed that schools must come up with concrete strategies that may lessen the effects of bullying. Further enhancement of the knowledge and practical approaches of the management team that handles bullying cases must be addressed.
