Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The study determined the effectiveness of Program BALA (Buddy-Buddy Activity Learning Mathematics) as remedial instruction in enhancing Mathematics skills of grade six pupils and the problems met by the teacher in its implementation at Lecheria Elementary School. This served as a basis for an action plan that would improve the numeric skills of pupils to increase the academic performance of the school in Mathematics.

METHODS

This experimental research utilized the periodical tests as the primary source of data. Worksheets were given to each pair to enhance their numeric skills during remedial instruction. The subjects of the study were thirty-eight (38) pupils, composed of nineteen boys and nineteen girls who belong to the lowest section, and one (1) Mathematics teacher who is the Mathematics Coordinator of the school.

RESULTS

Based on the assessment, Program BALA has a significant effect on the performance level of the pupils on their fourth periodic test. This means thatProgram BALA (Buddy-Buddy Activity Learning Arithmetic) was an effective tool for remedial instruction in enhancing Mathematics skills of the learners. Absenteeism of the mentees or the mentor and conducting school programs were the very minimal problems met in implementing Program BALA.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are given: a sustainability remedial program using Program BALA as a learning strategy should be established to maximize the academic skills of the pupils.
