Brigada Eskwela Program Implementation in the Division of Sorsogon City: Basis for Proposed School Educational Resources Plan

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The provision of RA 9155 cites the vital role of every school in sustaining pre-eminent services in achieving basic quality education. In addition, this endeavor can highly improve resource generation and stakeholders' participation in Brigada Eskwela. It highlights the value of engaging stakeholders from the community and the private sector to be active partners in improving the schools. With this effort, the Division of Sorsogon City generated the total amount of 76,582,943.21 and around 162,002 volunteers during the 2018 Brigada Eskwela Program implementation.

METHODS

This paper used descriptive-evaluation research derived from the following methods of data collection: observations, interview, validation and analysis of the data accomplished from Brigada Eskwela form. The form was accomplished by 84schools in the Division of Sorsogon City, with a focus on their individual and collective initiatives on addressing Brigada Eskwela program implementation.

RESULTS

The effect of the implementation of 2018 Brigada Eskwela Program in the Division of Sorsogon City led up of the following analyses: 1. The common practice conducted by every school to implement BrigadaEskwela in their advocacy campaign was conducted through meetings, distributing flyers in any area in the barangay, and posting information in the school bulletin board. 2. With the enormous efforts conducted in the implementation of 2018 Brigada Eskwela, almost 51.07% increase was generated along with school infrastructure and 42.36% increase in the stakeholder's participation. 3. Majority of the schools indicated the insufficiency of resources to fully implement activities under the Brigada Eskwela program. Other problems include lack of funds, insufficient construction materials, and low parents’ participation. 4. The Brigada Eskwela program can be implemented effectively by encouraging wide participation of manpower in the community and requesting financial assistance to the local government unit and other community organization.

DISCUSSIONS

The Brigada Eskwela has been an avenue for the stakeholders to continuously support the schools and feel the spirit of ownership for the institution. Although the program showed success in institutionalizing community involvement, this, however, faces various challenges that must be addressed by the schools and the Department.
