Box of Knowledge: Reading Intervention Material for Grade One Struggling Readers of Dayapan Elementary School

INTRODUCTION
Learning to read is the fundamental factor in developing the minds of the learners. It is a vital skill that should be established and settled to function in today's society. Recognizing the letters and their sounds is the first step to learn and understand the written words that will help the mind of the child grow in their ability and language skills. This skill and ability start in Grade One. Box of knowledge: Reading Intervention Material for Grade One Struggling Readers of Dayapan Elementary School was created to lessen the number of pupils in grade one who are identified with reading difficulty.
METHODS
The action research was conducted to Struggling Grade One Pupils of Dayapan Elementary School SY 2017 -2018. Evaluation Sheets was utilized to gather the data. The administration involves the description of tabulated data, their analysis, and interpretation to reflect the attainability and effectivity of the intervention program for the struggling readers in grade one.
RESULTS
The research showed that the Reading Intervention Materials used and the activities provided in every level helped the struggling grade one reader to develop their letter/sound recognition, word recognition, and reading phrases and sentences. There was no identified non-reader in grade one SY 2017-2018.
DISCUSSIONS
Based on the findings, struggling readers in grade one who has been remediated with Box of Knowledge as an intervention material developed and improved their reading skill. There are different levels in reading materials and activity sheets included in the Box of Knowledge. Letter and Sound Recognition is the first level. The second level is Reading Syllables in which all syllables with the same vowel are ring bound. The third level is the Reading CVC Pattern. This level is subdivided by medial sound. The next level is Reading Phrase followed by Reading Sentences The last level is Reading Short Stories. In every level, evaluation sheet is provided in order to determine if the learner is ready to move on to the next level.
