Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Helping the severely wasted pupils is one of the Priority Improvement Areas in the Annual Implementation Plan of Carsadang Bago Elementary School. Every year, the school allocates funds for the undernourished learners believing that learners with healthy and normal status are also having great minds. Learning becomes easy if the learners are being fed by nutritious food. The school is not only centered by the cognitive aspects of the learners but also in their health. We believe in the old saying that "health is wealth". The School Baseline Nutritional StatusReport for SY 2016-2017 shows that there are 7 severely wasted pupils and 24 wasted pupils or 4% undernourished learners out of 689 pupils. The school wanted to identify the real beneficiaries of the SBFP through accurate measurement of pupils' height and weight.

METHODS

Interview, Questionnaire, and Observation were conducted to validate the data presented and analyzed.

RESULTS

Based on the data gathered, the studyfound out that there were some pupils whose weight and height from the Baseline Report have discrepancies compared to the result using the standardized weighing scale. In using the bathroom weighing scale, the data and results were inaccurate. It can be inferred that the use of bathroom weighing scale causes inaccuracy of data and report. It is recommended that intense training for every Clinic and BMI coordinators and teachers should be conducted to enhance the knowledge in measuring the height and weightof the pupils. Results of the study revealed that the use of standardized weighing scale provides accurate data and helps in determining the right SBFP beneficiaries.

DISCUSSIONS

The BMI Coordinator and Clinic Teacher should undergo intensive training inaccomplishing nutritional status report form. BMI Orientation should be conducted by BMI Coordinator and Clinic Teacher to the advisers. The school should provide a standardized weighing scale. Height and weight measurement should be done by the Clinic Teacher and adviser. Validation of Nutritional Status Report by the Clinic Teacher should be done to identify the real SBFP beneficiaries. They must continue the BMI Orientation before accomplishing Baseline Nutritional Status Report, monitor the utilizationof the standardized weighing scale, and validate the Nutritional Status Report to identify the real SBFP beneficiaries.
