Blended Learning Tool in Teaching Technology and Livelihood Education Exploratory

INTRODUCTION
Social media, particularly Facebook, has become a popular platform used for teaching-learning and communication nowadays. This study explores the effect of utilizing Facebook as a blended learning tool in teaching Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) exploratory grade 8. It determines the internet access profile and the level of readiness and attitude of the students in utilizing Facebook as a supplementary instructional platform.
METHODS
This study used the experimental and descriptive method of research involving 30 randomly selected students. The experimental method used a 40-item pretest and posttest for each learning competency administered in the control and experimental group while the descriptive method used a survey questionnaire purposely used to determine the internet access profile and the level of readiness and attitude of the grade 8 students. The lecture videos, enrichment videos, information sheets, self-check, sample project, enrichment activities, oral recitations, and remedial activities are posted on Facebook. The control group is exposed in the traditional instructions.
RESULTS
This study disclosed that there is a significant difference between the performances of the control and experimental group. Hence, there is a significant increase in the mean posttest performance of the experimental group after they engaged in Facebook as a blended learning platform. The findings also revealed that the students who were engaged in using Facebook improved their learning outcomes in the following learning competencies: 1) use and maintenance of kitchen tools and equipment; and 2) history and equipment used in contact center services. Moreover, all of the students have their own Facebook account used in their blended instructions and capable to get connected to the internet using their gadget and equipment.
DISCUSSIONS
Facebook, as a blended learning tool, provides students more engaging and motivating learning approach and favorable learning experience. Regardless of limited internet access to public WIFI, the student's capability of utilizing Facebook as a blended learning tool provides an avenue to learn anytime, anywhere at their own pace. The students show an agreeable attitude and readiness to utilize the blended learning platform. Thus, Facebook is a user-friendly, relevant, accessible and effective blended learning tool which can be done as a supplementary, integrative, and interventional mechanisms in teaching.
