Blaan Parents Involvement in School Activities in a Public National High School in Malapatan Sarangani Province

INTRODUCTION
This study described the extent of involvement of Blaan parents in school activities, specifically in the Orientation, Brigada-Eskwela, Parent-Teacher Conference and Recognition Day. It also described in terms of their extent of attendance and experiences in school activities. The research was conducted at Lun Padidu National High School located at Malapatan, Sarangani Province, and the respondents chosen were Blaan parents, Blaan students, and teachers.
METHODS
The methods utilized in data gathering were validated by experts and adviser-approved guide questions for interviews. The analysis of data used two types of methodologies such as quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative data were analyzed through document analysis which focused on the extent of attendance of Blaan parents in school activities, while the qualitative data was analyzed according to the verbatim narration of interview responses given by the participants.
RESULTS
The results showed that the extent of Blaan parents' involvement in Parent-Teacher Conference was excellent while in Brigada-Eskwela was fair. Generally, the Blaan parents' involvement in school activities was good. However, there was a limited frequency of schedules on activities which created communication deficiency between school and parents. The strong implementation in checking the Blaan parents' attendance was not given emphasis.
DISCUSSIONS
The experiences of Blaan parents, Blaan students, and teachers reflect needs to improve the implementation of the conduct of school activities to increase parents' involvement. Therefore, it is a need for regular communication between the school and the LGU, parents, and stakeholders, to have a regular assessment and evaluation of the school activities, strict checking of parents' attendance, follow-up through home visitation and regular deliberation of the objectives and children's performances in school must be evident to increase parents' involvement in school.
