Bikemate: An Android App with Data Analytics for Bmi Monitoring

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Body mass index (BMI) is a way to measure the calories based on ones' weight relative to the height (Medical News, 2017). It is important to determine whether a cyclist is physically fit to ensure safety while biking. The main objective of this study is to develop an android application for monitoring BMI, planning a trip, and searching for the shortest trajectory with data analytics.

METHODS

Data analytics measures the quantitative process and techniques to gain and enhance productivity (Technopedia, 2017). Rapid Application Development (RAD) was utilized by the researcher to come up with a good result. This model was helpful in defining clients' requirements and setting the coverage of the project (Prieto, 2016).

RESULTS

As a result, it can be inferred that the developed app is functional, reliable, and easy to use. From the five (5) android characteristics that were evaluated, the result shows that portability and functionality got the highest rating. The system was acceptable based on the result of system testing. It indicates that the ultimate achievement of this developed android application is the compatibility of the android application (Joe, 2017) in the different operating system for Android phones and computing of body mass index and directing the android application using voice navigation. The BMI was also helpful for the bikers because it can monitor the total calories, they needed to lose to be healthier.

DISCUSSIONS

An evaluation was conducted by the researcher in the developed system which will be used by the organization and assessed through formative and summative evaluation (Prieto, 2016). It enables the organization and other respondents to determine if the program developed is efficient, effective, and accurate based on the ISO 9126. Out of five (5) major characteristics, four of them stand out. For the portability of the BikeMate Android application, a total of 4.94 was the highest rating made by the respondents. They strongly agreed that the body mass index was accurately computed. The voice navigation was a big help for the riders.
