Behavior of Kindergarten Learners with Working and Non -Working Mothers in Matagbak Elementary School: A Comparative Study

INTRODUCTION
This study determined the comparison of the behavior of kindergarten pupils with working and non-working mothers in Matagbak Elementary School.
METHODS
The variables considered in this study were sex, sibling position, monthly family income, mother's educational attainment, and mother's category. To compare the behavior of kindergarten pupils with working and non-working mothers, the revised Philippine ECCD Checklist was used.
RESULTS
Majority of the respondents, in terms of sex, were female with a frequency of 26 or 54.17 percent followed by male with a frequency 22 or 45.83. In terms of sibling position, the majority of the respondents are in the in-between position with a frequency of 18 or 37.5 percent followed by the eldest position with a frequency of 16 or 33.33 percent, and lastly, the youngest position with a frequency of 14 or 29.17 percent.
In terms of Monthly Family Income, 25 or 52.08 are 4.999 and below, 13 or 27.08 are 5.000 –9.999 and 10 or 20.83 percent are 10.000 and above with a total of 100 percent. In terms of mother's educational attainment, the majority of the respondents are high school graduates with a frequency of 43 or 89.58 percent, followed by college graduates with a frequency of 5 or 10.41 percent.
With respect to Mothers Category, it revealed that majority of the respondents are the non -working mothers with a frequency of 38 or 20.83 percent followed by working mothers with a frequency of 10 or 20.83 percent.
The results of the behavior of kindergarten learners, in terms of having a working mother, depict that majority of the respondents with working mothers obtained a standard score of 80-119 or average overall development with a computed mean of 60 followed by 70 -79 score with a computed weighted mean of 40 with a total of 100 percent.
With respect to non-working mothers, it depicted that majority of the respondents obtained a standard score of 80-119 or average overall development with a computed mean of 47.36 followed by 70 -79 score with computed weighted mean of 39.47, and lastly, 69 and below with a computed mean 13.15 with a total of 100 percent.
DISCUSSIONS
This study result indicates the need to be aware of the behavioral problems of kindergarten learners. Screening is necessary to detect their behavioral problems as these always require special attention.
