Awareness on the Yaman and Kultura of Cavinti: Basis for Development of a Localized Teaching Materials

INTRODUCTION
One of the key features of the K-12 curriculum is the delivery of lessons through localization and contextualization. Adapting and relating the content of the curriculum and the process of teaching and learning to local conditions, environment, resources, previous experiences, and real-life situations are very indispensable to teaching. Teachers should be adaptive and creative in using localization and contextualization in teaching especially the 21st-century learners who need to be holistically and skillfully developed. This study was conducted to determine the awareness on the Yaman at Kultura ng Cavinti as the basis for the development of localized teaching materials.
METHODS
The study used descriptive research that gathered quantifiable information on the target population for statistical inference through data analysis. A questionnaire was developed to determine the localized learning materials being used by teachers. The target population comprised of the elementary schools in the District of Cavinti, Division of Laguna at School Year 2017-2018. A sample of fifty (50) teachers teaching intermediate pupils were the respondents of the study.
RESULTS
Based on the findings of the fifty (50) public school teachers who answered the questionnaires, it revealed that there is a high level of extent in the utilization of localized learning materials in the District of Cavinti. Level of awareness of the intermediate pupils after using Yaman at Kultura ng Cavinti in terms of Cultural, Historical and Language aspect was high, making the results significant. Prospective development of Cavinti based on pupils learning after using Yaman at Kultura ng Cavinti was high since instructional materials reached the goals and objectives of the localization and contextualization in Cavinti. The materials aligned with the needs of the curriculum and the localized materials used helped in the achievement of the content standard required.
DISCUSSIONS
The results manifested the urgent need for the organization of regular seminars for teachers and administrators on the importance of Yaman at Kultura ng Cavinti with emphasis on cultural, historical and language aspects. Regular supervision of administrators must be done to enhance the effective use of instructional materials and resources in teaching. Validating the result of the study by conducting another study that will negate or support the findings and showcase the developed localized learning materials in the division and district for additional teaching materials are also recommended.
