INTRODUCTION
Reproductive health education is a holistic health program starting from early age teaching values for understanding the anatomy and physiology of the body. However, because of the lack of quality education, the Philippines is considered as one with the highest teen pregnancy rates in the world. The main purpose of this study is to determine the awareness of the students on reproductive health education. We conducted this study to assess the students' awareness and how they understand the significance of reproductive health education.
METHODS
A phenomenological study was used as the research design. Using the validated interview guide questionnaire, we conducted in-depth one-on-one interviews as the primary source of data. There were eight Grade 11 student-participants selected through the purposive sampling technique. The answers from the respondents were collected, transcribed, and analyzed.
RESULTS
Research findings implicate that the participants are not totally aware of reproductive health education. Because of this, we arrived at extracting five (5) themes that are related to the answers of the grade 11 students from the questions that were given to them. The theme that the researchers established are Perception (1), Beneficial (2), Benefits and Harm (3), Implementation (4), and Self-application (5). All of the participants willfully participated during the interview. However, most of them cannot further express their thoughts and explanations about reproductive health education.
DISCUSSIONS
The results implicate the lack of knowledge and understanding of participants on reproductive health education. Among the themes established by the researchers concerning to the response of the participants in the study, "implementation" is revealed to be the most effective way for the students to be aware of the reproductive health education. Department of Education may consider this research study in implementing the reproductive health education to help young people out there, to learn and deepen their understanding regarding the research study.
