INTRODUCTION
Disasters deprive children of their right to a continuous, quality, basic education in a safe environment. Decreasing vulnerabilities and increasing capacities of a community exposed to a hazard could prevent disasters. In this study, the researcher developed an application for Android devices that canbe a great step forward in disseminating information to all students and other school personnel about the natural hazard and human-induced hazard as part of disaster risk reduction management. It will also serve as a handy information repository for the things students should do when a particular hazard happens.
METHODS
Using a grounded theory approach, a researcher-made questionnaire was utilized to gather the necessary data. Two hundred thirty Grade 11 and 12 senior high students in Natalia V. Ramos Memorial National High School served as the respondents. Chi-square test, as statistical treatment, was used to determine the level of awareness of the students in natural and human-induced hazards. The researcher utilized the descriptive research design to gather the necessary data for the development of an output that will uplift the level of awareness of the senior high school students on natural hazards and human-induced hazard as part of disaster risk reduction and management.
RESULTS
Majority of the senior high school student-respondents are not aware of natural and human-induced hazards. There is no significant relationship between sex, grade level, and track/strand and their level of awareness in natural and human-induced hazards.
DISCUSSIONS
The results demonstrate the need for uplifting the level of awareness of senior high school students in natural and human-induced hazards. Building awareness on the impact of natural and human-induced hazard is very important. The school-based disaster preparedness should not only focus on mere preparedness but also seek to develop knowledge to institutionalize the culture of safety and resilience to all students.
