Abstract

INTRODUCTIONThe student-respondents are selected femalestudents of San Pedro National High School. The main purpose of this research is to help female students of San Pedro National High School become more aware of the different kinds of abuse they might encounter inside or outside the school campus. Specifically, the following are the main objectives in conducting this study: 1) to identify the different kinds of violence against women and children; 2) to identify reasons why a certain individual are being abused; 3) to develop and improve their knowledge about violence against women and children; 4) to learn how to assess the risk of such violence; and 5) to identify the purpose of having a seminar about the violence against women and children. This research used a heuristic approach. The study is limited only to the awareness of students on violence against women and children.METHODSThis is descriptive research following the input, process and output methodology about the awareness of the students on violence against women and children.RESULTSThe findings revealed that most of the female students of San Pedro National High School are not aware to the highest extent on the different kinds of violence against women and children. Result of the study will help female students increase their awareness of varied forms of abuse and the implied conscience on the victims.DISCUSSIONSRegarding violence experience by students, bullying tops the number of cases. Others did not experience any kind of violence. When it comes to the reasons why individuals are being abused, physical appearance appeared to have the highest number of respondents. Attitude does not matter as long as the person has beauty. Since teachers do not discuss violence against women and children in their class, most of the respondents are not aware of the content of R.A.9262 which is Violence against Women and Children. Students prefer that discussions of violence against women and children be integrated into their subject where the topic is related. In this sense, the school administration, thru the assistance of faculty, should conduct a seminar for students regarding violence against women and children. Class advisers should have thorough monitoring of their classes to prevent such violence, especially to female students. The school should invitea resource speaker who is knowledgeable about violence against women and children. Topics related to violence against women and children should be included in the lessons especially on the Edukasyong sa Pagpapahala subject
