Abstract

INTRODUCTION

This research entitled " Avocado -Ripening Agent” is concerned with the use of avocado fruits and leaves as ripening agent for banana. Bananas with avocado as a ripening agent are very safe to eat. Calcium carbide and ethel are the ripening agents used nowadays, but they have different chemicals that may harm our health and environment.

METHODS

This research presents a solution to the aforementioned problems. Avocado fruits and leaves that abound in the locality were utilized as ripening agent for banana. Fresh avocado fruits and leaves and bananas were gathered. Matured avocado fruit and leaves were weighed 500 grams each. The 500 grams of avocado fruit were placed in a box together with 2000 grams of banana. The 500 grams of avocado leaves were also placed in a separate box with another 2 000 grams of banana. Another 2000 grams of banana was placed in a separate box without any ripening agent. The set up was observed for several days. 2000grams of banana with avocado fruit ripens fastest among the three. Banana with the avocado leaves ripens faster than the banana without the ripening agent.

RESULTS

Several trials were made for the validity of results. Both the leaves and the fruit of avocado as a ripening agent was very effective. The more avocado fruit and leaves used, the fastest the ripening of banana.

DISCUSSIONS

This research is significant to our health because it has no chemicals involved that may harm our health and environment. It is also environment-friendly.
