INTRODUCTION
In the educational system nowadays, the types of learners ranged from good to slow ones in terms of performance. Even in behavior, certain pupils cannot be called into attention due to absenteeism, chair hopping, disruptive behavior, and inattention. In this view, the researcher decided to undertake a study that would uphold certain authentic tasks which could be used to counter all of these. This study aimed to determine the authentic tasks used by teachers in teaching Grade One pupils. It also aimed to determine the effects of authentic tasks to their learning. Finally, based on the results, an authentic task action plan was proposed to promote its use in teaching.
METHODS
Using the descriptive method of research, a researcher-made questionnaire was designed and administered to eight (8) Grade One teachers to determine the authentic tasks that they have been using in teaching Grade One pupils and the effects of authentic tasks to the learning of these pupils. They were selected using the purposive sampling technique. A researcher-made questionnaire was the research tool used. The anonymity of the respondents was kept throughout the conduct of this research.
RESULTS
An action plan based on the results was proposed to promote its use in teaching. Results revealed that among the authentic tasks, role-playing activities/simulation activities, a portfolio which contains a genuine sample of works, solving mathematical problems, and performing skills and competencies were the authentic tasks suited for the Grade One pupils. Moreover, there was a positive effect of these authentic tasks to these pupils.
DISCUSSIONS
Authentic tasks were very usable as strategies in teaching the Grade One pupils. It was recommended that the action plan from this research be utilized and monitored. Implementation of the tasks included in the action plan was highly recommended.
