Abstract

INTRODUCTION

In the advent of the implementation of the K-12 Basic Education Curriculum of Department of Education, the need to use educational technology in the classroom is important since the integration of subject areas is emphasized. The educational system is being challenged to assure everyone that all pupils are technologically literate by the dawn of the 21st century and equipped with communication, math, science, reading and critical thinking essential for enhancing learning and improving productivity and performance.

METHODS

The investigation described how the teachers assess themselves on the use of educational technology in different elementary schools in Tuy. The study utilized the descriptive method of research to assess the attitudes of teachers in using educational technology. The participants of this study were recruited from the teachers from elementary schools in Tuy, Batangas. Data were gathered through a questionnaire containing the indicators regarding their attitudes on the use of educational technology.

RESULTS

The results of the study were (1) Most of the respondents were female teachers. There were also more married respondents compared to single in status and most of them are graduates of Bachelor in Elementary Education with Graduate Studies units and have a lengthy period of teaching in terms of years in service. (2) The respondents responded to the extent use of educational technology in the classroom like photographs, film slides, radio cassettes, overhead projector, television, video/DVD/Multi-media as useful. (3) The respondents responded with uncertain, which may be concluded that they nearly agree in the use of educational technology. (4) There was a significant relationship between the extent of use of various educational technology and attitudes of teachers towards the use of educational technology.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the results, it is recommended that classroom teachers should learn how to use educational technology whether they are young or old. The school heads should seek assistance from the District Supervisor, through Local and Provincial School Board, to provide more funds for supplying the needed various educational technology and facilities that can be used in the classroom. Teachers should also adopt the importance of using educational technology in the classroom for the improvement of the teaching and learning process. To enhance the use of educational technology in the classroom, the proposed action plan can be used by the school administrators and every teacher.
