Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The use of multimedia in the classroom cannot be denied any more for it enhances students' learning, teachers' instruction and serves as a catalyst for improving access to quality education. In this regard, teachers of Wenceslao Trinidad National High School are now investing in TV sets, laptops, and projectors. This being so, they are expected to be competent and have the right attitude in the use of multimedia technology in teaching. This study was conceptualized to distinguish the significance of multimedia technology as a tool to enrich the teaching-learning process. The researchers believe that with multimedia, the process of learning can become more oriented, more participatory, and flexible in time and space, can unaffected by distances and tailored to individual learning styles, and can increase collaboration between teachers and students.

METHODS

A descriptive method of research was used to describe the attitude and competencies of teachers on the use of multimedia in teaching. The entire population of teachers was purposively selected regardless of their profile and a questionnaire -checklist was utilized to gather pertinent data. The questionnaire consists of a structured series of questions based on the specific statements of the problem of this study.

RESULTS

The findings of this study revealed that most of the respondents had a positive attitude and high competency in using multimedia in teaching, though some factors like the condition of facilities and the availability of resources discouraged and hindered some teachers from using multimedia in teaching.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on these results, the existing multimedia facilities may be improved and modernized and school administrators may provide a multimedia classroom for every subject area. In connection, various training on the use of multimedia may be conducted for the least competent teachers and continuous use of such equipment may be encouraged to address the problem. Undeniably, it is of great help in the continuous improvement of teachers if they value the use of multimedia technology as a tool in teaching.
