Assessment on Trainers Methodology and Capability Training Program for TM Holders: Input to Technical Vocational Skills Development

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

With the goal of the K to 12 programs of equipping teachers and making them competent on their specialization, the Department of Education-Division of Cavite, through the Curriculum Implementation Division, conducts training for Trainers Methodology (TM) under the TESDA-Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) and Capability Training Program (CTP) for secondary teachers. The main aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of Trainers Methodology and Capability Training Program for TLE/TVE/TVL teachers.

METHODS

The study applied descriptive research and inferential statistics. Data for the research was gathered through the use of adapted TM evaluation survey form and a self-made questionnaire for Capability Training Program. The location of the study was in General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School, General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite. Data collection covered October 24-25, 2017. To evaluate the outcome of this study, descriptive and inferential statistics were used. The results were obtained using Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS version 21) program in getting the mean, frequency, and chi-square test.

RESULTS

The results of this study showed that Trainers Methodology Program was found to be an extremely effective program for teachers. Among the factors, the competitiveness and credentials of facilitator/trainer were perceived to be extremely effective factors of the program. On the other hand, there were factors found to be least effective, such as the selection of method and appropriateness of activities, which suggest for review and considerations to among training institutions. Using chi-square correlation, it revealed that the teacher-scholars who underwent this program practiced on their respective classrooms the same competencies they have learned from the training. Overall results showed that the Capability Training program was very effective for teachers because it addressed their training needs. General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School, Tanza National Trade School, and Amaya School of Home Industries had produced two thousand six hundred thirty-three or 2,633 students with National Certificates from TESDA.

DISCUSSIONS

Department of Education-Cavite should continue to upgrade the competencies of teachers by conducting Trainers Methodology and Capability Training Program which address the needs of the TLE/TVE/TVL teachers. An effective training program for teachers will produce a well-rounded and versatile student adaptable to the needs of the labor market.
