Assessment of Using Multi-Media Devices as an Instructional Tool in Teaching Cookery Subject among Students of Maximo T. Hernandez Memorial National High School

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Multimedia devices became one of the necessities in the teaching and learning process today. Multimedia devices made the process of teaching easier and more convenient to use on the part of the educators. On the part of the learners, these made them more motivated and interested in acquiring knowledge. In the K to 12 program of the Department of Education (Department of Education) which focuses on the development or enhancement of the skills of the learner to be globally competitive, the need for multimedia devices arises in the need for attaining the goal of education in the country.At this point, it is a mere fact that technology, through the use of multimedia devices, helps improve the quality of the teaching and learning process in education. The researcher found out to assess the use of multimedia devices as an instructional tool in teaching cookery.

METHODS

It is a descriptive method of research that uses purposive sampling technique. One hundred twenty-three respondents and three TLE teachers were given a survey questionnaire containing Likert scale items and it was used as the data gathering instrument. Essentially, this method revealed the efficiency of using multimedia devices as an instructional tool in teaching cookery.

RESULTS

Students do not feel boredom when the teacher uses games and activities using multimedia in teaching cookery. This has a weighted average of 4.51. This affirms that the respondents enjoy game-based activities with the use of multimedia devices. The findings indicate that students and teachers find multimedia devices efficient in delivering lessons and they serve as motivational tools in enhancing the level of student's performance in class.

DISCUSSIONS

The results demonstrate that having a wide knowledge of using multimedia devices as an instructional tool in teaching cookery subject will be of great help in developing and enhancing the 21st-century learners' skills. Also, creating instructional materials for cookery using these multimedia devices, evaluated and validated by experts on the field, can also be used by other schools.
