Assessment of Study Habits and their Implications on Students' Academic Performance of Grade IV-Lilac at West Bauan Central School

INTRODUCTION
Quality of education is reflected through academic achievements -a function of study habits and study attitudes of the students. An effective student can achieve their goals because of their study habits. A student must know their learning method and study habits for these will help them achieve the goals of education. Learning through good habits is the key process in human behavior.
METHODS
The respondents of the study are 36 pupils of Grade IV -Lilac of West Bauan Central School from First Semester (June -August 2017) only. This study used the descriptive qualitative research design which aims to identify the best strategies for teachers of WBCS in developing positive attitudes of pupils' study habits and academic performance. To gather the necessary data for the study, the researcher used the following tools -grading sheet, checklist, and Project SMART (Studying hard Makes AcademicReadiness and Triumphant Future) -to attain the objective of this study.
RESULTS
Through the data collected, it indicates that 61% of pupils have an average of74 and below in English which did not meet the expectation. 32% got a fairly satisfactory average of 75-79%. 19% fall on the satisfactory grade in three subjects. 14% of pupils got a very satisfactory grade. Only 3% has an outstanding average. Both Mathematics and Science have the same percent of pupils: 22% of pupils got 74 and below which did not meet expectation, 58% got a fairly satisfactory grade, and 19% got a satisfactory grade. In Filipino, the highest percentage fall on a fairly satisfactory average of 75-79%. Based on the results of the study, the following schemes were further stressed: Teachers have a role in guiding pupils develop in them the desirable study habits. Parents have a responsibility in understanding the significance of good study habits and in monitoring their children towards learning. Implementing a program for improving study habits programmer will help the academic performance of the pupils.
DISCUSSIONS
Based on the outcomes of the study, the following impacts were further stressed: Teachers have a role in guiding pupils in helping them improve their desirable study habits. Parents are accountable for understanding the significance of good study habits and for monitoring their children’s learning. Implementing study habits programs that will help the academic performance of the pupils is necessary. The researcher used Project SMART to help the pupils become effective, successful, and able in achieving their goals in life.
