Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The study assessed the Strengthened Technical Vocational Education Program -Competency-Based Curriculum and its aims, learning experiences, learning outcomes, student' self-assessment and attitude towards the enhancement of the curriculum implementation.

METHODS

The study employed a descriptive research design. Questionnaires were used and follow-up interviews were conducted to help the researcher gather the needed information. The respondents of the study were grade ten (10) students and teachers, subject area coordinators, and Department Heads of General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School (GMATHS). The analysis procedure was used as well as statistical procedures such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation and interpretation of mean score to treat all the gathered data.

RESULTS

The respondents of the study believe that it is the commitment of the school to see to it that the needed competencies and qualification for college education, post-secondary education, entrepreneurship, and the world of work were provided to the students. The study also revealed that the subject matter of STVEP -CBC is attained at the school level and is aligned to the training regulation of TESDA. Three teaching strategies were identified as effective in the study: the teacher facilitates interviews, performs an actual demonstration, and links topics to real situations. Providing task sheets, job sheets, operation sheets, and checklist were proven to be effective in project-based learning.

DISCUSSIONS

Although the study revealed favorable findings in the STVEP-CBC implementation, the researcher still feels that there are still important points to be considered to improve its implementation. One factor which seemed to be taken lightly is the students’ interests. Students must be the ones choosing their specialization in TVE for this will greatly affect their attitude and performance. Another factor needed to be considered is the important role played by stakeholders in improving the implementation of the curriculum being assessed.
