Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The research paper assessed the usefulness of robotic tools and sequential activities as components in the Robotics Program for grade seven (7) Special Science Class of Alfonso National High School for the school year 2017-2018. The teaching and learning process, through which robotics tools were put together with appropriate activities, facilitated the materialization of a more situated, experiential, meaningful and cost-effective learning environment. Also, the study aimed to determine the perception of learners on the robotics program in terms of enhancing learning, fostering teamwork, and developing self-direction.

METHODS

Case study-post survey only research design was used in this study. Here, participants were given detailed discussion as an introductory lecture followed by hands-on application of robotic activities. The population of this study was taken from the sample population of thirty (30) Grade 7 -Special Science Class students of Alfonso National High School for the school year 2017-2018. The researcher utilized statistical treatment procedures in this study like mean, weighted mean, and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r) for the relationship of variables.

RESULTS

Based on the results of the study, the use of robotic tools and activities have a high impact on the learning of Grade 7 students specifically in hands-on application. The findings showed that the variety of materials utilized had a big impact on their perception of the robotics program. Therefore, the use of robotic tools and sequential activities has been effective in teaching and learning a new innovative program which can be added to their existing subjects.

DISCUSSIONS

The proper use of available technologies may develop interest and foster teamwork among students. Also, science and technology infrastructure, if maximized, will multiply or increase hands-on manipulative skills for all its users. Therefore, the robotics program would foster teamwork, enhance learning, and develop self-direction within the group where they actively interact by sharing experiences and take on asymmetry roles. However, proper planning and implementation must be considered to achieve the optimum result.
