Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Research writing is one of the most prominent ways to upgrade learning and to create innovations. Based on the current K to 12 Curriculum, it is already included in the learning competencies of Grade Ten students and their foundation of learning about research from Junior High School. With the existing stigma of the students on the laborious tasks in research writing, the study seeks to identify the perception of the students to enlighten them on their research writing skills. This can be a foundation in honing their writing and research skills.

METHODS

The descriptive method of research was used. One hundred twenty-five Grade 10 students in Bukal National High School responded to the 55-item questionnaire. The researcher-made survey-questionnaire measured the developed research writing skills, the level of learning and difficulties faced by students in research writing.

RESULTS

The students perceived that the developed research competencies are data gathering procedure, formulating a hypothesis, statistical treatment of data, and analysis and interpretation of data. In line with the levelof learning in research in different research competencies, data gathering procedure and analysis and interpretation are very evident. Moreover, there is a high degree of perception of the students on the difficulties faced in research writing.

DISCUSSIONS

The results revealed that their developed research skills and their level of learning are very evident. Furthermore, the students considered choosing the right topic as the most frequent difficulty experienced in research writing. Nevertheless, the research addressed the difficulties faced by students in research writing to further improve these skills. As student-researchers, focusing more on the relevance of conducting research is strongly needed.
