INTRODUCTION
Reading is the basic foundation of learning for without it learning would not be possible. According to Ashley Moore in her article “The Importance of Comprehension Skills in Reading” (2016), it involves finding meaning in the text, summarizing, making inferences, getting the main idea, noting details, answering questions based on the text and applying the different components of reading skills in real life situation. It also requires successful reading comprehension, vocabulary knowledge and fluency in reading to be called reader. The success in reading is manifested if the learners are able to comprehend and give meaning to the text. In this study, the researcher wanted to find an intervention program that will address the difficulty in pupils' reading comprehension for it might be the cause of their low performance in their academic subjects.
METHODS
Quasi-Experimental Method of Research was used because it is one of the most powerful methodologies in finding the causal impact and effectiveness of the reading intervention program on improving the pupils' reading comprehension.
RESULTS
Based on the results obtained, respondents who participated in this research benefited on the conduct of the remedial reading intervention program on their reading skills. Results attested the effectiveness of the Reading Intervention Program on reading performance of the respondents on different reading skills.
DISCUSSIONS
The results show that the remedial reading intervention program focused on the different reading skills greatly helped in improving the reading comprehension skills of the pupils. It incorporates feedback from the teacher and, at the same time, it is an evidence-based strategy that increased the reading fluency and comprehension skills of the pupils. It is also necessary that the school must have a balanced Reading Intervention Program coupled with effective instructional reading materials that will be strictly implemented for its success.
