Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Electronic Product Assembly Servicing (EPAS) is one of the specializations offered in Senior High School. This specialization requires a lot of actual activities like assembling and installing industrial products (e.g. TV, photovoltaic, CCTV). Some of the difficulties of students when doing activities include inconvenience, impracticality, the improper designated position of each part and equipment, no proper installation procedure, and its proneness to a possible hazard. In this study, instructional mock-ups such as photovoltaic and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) were used as innovations in assembling consumer industrial products.

METHODS

An experimental method was used. There were two sessions conducted. There were45 electronics students who participated in the study. During the first session, the participants used traditional assembling where the equipment was just put in the table with no label and designated position. In the second session, the participants used mock-ups in assembling and installing photovoltaic and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).

RESULTS

The results revealed that the participants got high scores when there were mock-ups used in assembling and installing the photovoltaic and CCTV than using the traditional assembling. Moreover, since all the necessary equipment, tools, and materials were complete, they easily recognized the terminal connection of the wiring because the mock-ups have diagrams that were easy to understand.

DISCUSSIONS

The results demonstrated the need to use mock-ups in assembling consumer industrial products during actual assessment. Using mock-ups will help students, particularly the Electronics students, see the essential function of assembling and installing industrial products. They also became exposed to the semi-industry setup. For practical purposes, the students will be more familiar with industry experience or job skills. In addition, they will be exposed to their technological skills.
