Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Educators agree that prompt and regular school attendance is an important key to a student's success. Absenteeism in school is the habit of staying away from school without providing a genuine or any reason for not attending classes. Absenteeism is a truant behavior that negatively affects the performance among students. Going to school regularly is important for a student's education and social skills. Chronically absent students are at a disadvantage both socially and academically. They miss out on critical stages of social interaction and development with their peers.

METHODS

The descriptive research method was used in this study. It describes, with emphasis, the current conditions, practices, situations or any phenomena. A total of thirty (30) respondents were requested to answer the questionnaire.

RESULTS

Results showed that health is the primary reason why students are absent from their classes. Pupils encountered difficulties in a classroom environment, personal attitude, teacher factor, and home-related reasons. The proposed development plan may be helpful in motivating pupils to attend classes regularly.

DISCUSSIONS

The results demonstrate the need to make a proposed developmental plan. The consultation among authorities can be done to address the possible gaps in its implementation. Similar studies may be conducted focusing on other variables.
