Anxiety as a Factor Affecting Communication Skill in English among Grade Four Carnation Pupils at Tambo Elementary School

INTRODUCTION
With the call of globalization, it seems like everyone is required to learn English. However, we also have to admit that one thing that may hinder us from becoming more globally competitive is our ability to speak using the international language with confidence. One reason is the so-called speaking anxiety which is not cured at the very first stages of the students' life -their years in the elementary level. Speaking anxiety should be addressed properly and, in this case, our education system will be able to produce students and citizens who are very capable of dealing with people. Let us remember that everything starts with communication.
METHODS
This action research utilized descriptive quantitative research design since its main purpose is to know the level of the student's anxiety in speaking and communication in performing in a speaking activity or recitation and their ability to express their needs and wants in the language. The researcher made use of the 34 grade four students from Carnation section in Tambo Elementary School. To gather data necessary for this research, the researcher used a self-made questionnaire consisting of indicators based on action research variables.
RESULTS
The findings revealed that the students exhibited anxiety inside the classroom. Their performance in speaking, recitation, as well as the way they express their wants, is experienced with anxiety. Moreover, the result showed that the expression of what they want is the best predictor of their anxiety.
DISCUSSIONS
The researcher recommends that the teacher must be a good motivator to lessen the anxiety of the students inside the classroom. They can use appropriate strategies so that students will be at ease inside the classroom. Additionally, the teacher must use different strategies and techniques so that students can express their ideas clearly and able them to communicate what they want. Furthermore, the teacher should use a variety of performance-based activities to enhance students' performance in communication skills. They can also use the suggested plan of action to lessen students' level of anxiety and improve their communication skills.
