INTRODUCTION
Ancillary services are services provided by educational institutions peripheral to the main educational mission. The two main components of ancillary services are student welfare services and services for the general public.
The purpose of this study is to check if the ancillary tasks assigned to teachers will serve as a preparation for their professional development as leaders in the future.
METHODS
The information and data provided are accumulated by the researchers from the teachers of San Pedro National High School with ancillary assignments in a different area. From the population of 126 faculty and staff, 30 of them are the respondents of this study. In this study, the researchers made use of the descriptive method of research since the data gathered relatively were limited to the main intention of the study which was on the use of data for problem-solving than for hypotheses testing. The data were presented in tabular form and analyzed to answer the specific questions given in the statement of the problem.
RESULTS
This study on the ancillary assignments of teachers which relates to ancillary services provided by educational institutions has proved that teachers' skill flexibility in holding multiple roles help improve teachers' work performance. The teachers succeeded in accomplishing the ancillary tasks assigned by the school head. Furthermore, the perceived level of accomplishment of teachers allows them to work harmoniously with their co-teachers, helps them develop their leadership potentials, and allows them to learn comprehensive input on leadership.
DISCUSSIONS
This study aimed at preparing teachers for enhancing their leadership skills in school. These tasks are performed not for formal promotion but out of their whole-hearted service to the students and for the good of the institution as a whole. Therefore, further studies on how to enhance the leadership ability of teachers are needed to develop more effective leadership skills in the future as changes arise in the educational institution.
