Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Low parental involvement in children’s education is one of the major problems teachers of Nangkaan Elementary School currently experiences. The study is conducted to analyze the parental involvement in Kindergarten of Nangkaan Elementary School since it is the foundation of education. Furthermore, it will also help us understand the importance of parental involvement in children’s learning performance. It is very necessary to have this kind of study so teachers can encourage parents and make them understand the significance of their role and involvement in their children's optimum development in every step of the way.

At present, our study is currently applied in our school and already used by our kindergarten teacher to increase the Parental Involvement of our parents. Nowadays, it is really hard to attain 100% Parental Involvement especially when parents don't fully accept and understand their role as a parent in promoting and developing the whole well-being of every child. It is for this reason that this study is very timely and important

METHODS

This paper utilized a descriptive research design which used a mixed qualitative and quantitative method of research. In addition, the researchers used a self-constructed questionnaire to gather data. Moreover, findings were supported with unstructured interviews and personal-based observations from the teachers.

RESULTS

Results showed that the majority of the respondents have a low level of parental involvement or they do not engage very well in the education of their children. The researchers believe that these findings should be given focus by the school administration since this aspect is very important in the learning performance of the students.

DISCUSSIONS

The results imply the need to strengthen and improve parental involvement to improve student's performance in school. Low parental involvement means low child's performance in school. The study also has a significant effect on other related research and may consequently contribute to the better implementation of all research studies which tackled about students’ education.
