Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Truancy is a problem that is seriously affecting the total achievement of every school, in particular, in Pedro A. Paterno National High School. The purpose of this research is to develop a solution that can be proposed to all school administrators to decrease, or eliminate truancy altogether. It is to be initiated at the beginning of our next school year.

METHODS

The researchers applied the descriptive design. It utilized a questionnaire to find the factors that led to the truancy of the students in Pedro A. Paterno National High School. To answer the problems addressed in this study, statistical treatments were used. The entire problems in this study were answered by the following formula provided herein: Percentage (P) = f / n x 100%

RESULTS

Based on the data gathered, students of 12 -15 years of age are considered truant. The school factor appeared to be the respondents' most common reason for being truant. As to the academic performance of the truant students in the class, respondents are average and are low performers. The possible solution for addressing the truancy of the students is to have home visitation rather than providing intervention materials while conducting a parent-teacher conference is not a solution.

DISCUSSIONS

The researchers concluded that the students' truancy is when they are 12 - 15 years of age and their leading cause for being truant is the school factor. Home visitation and providing intervention materials are the possible solutions to address the truancy of the students.
