In the meantime, the evaluation of subject areas (e.g. English) is used by teachers to improve instruction and it is an integral part of the instructional process. Most tests tell the general achievement compared to the national sample. The conduct of the test should be done to assess pupils' achievement at the end of a particular period. Having said that, analyzing the results of a subject-evaluation is a vital basis for initiating an intervention for the betterment of the instructional process.

The documents were analyzed by getting the least mastered competencies, as revealed in the item analysis of the tests and match them to the corresponding English Skill. The results of the analysis serve as the basis for a school-initiated intervention to remedy the gaps among the imbalance in the four major skills.

RESULTS

It could be inferred from the results that the level of pupils' performance in different major skills is varied. The difference is significant. It encourages the teachers to be watchful and alert in the classroom delivery to remedy the gaps among the Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing skills. This study also reveals that listening skill is the most mastered skill among the components while the reading is the least mastered. Furthermore, the implementation of the school-initiated intervention significantly bridges the gaps in the imbalance in the teaching program among the 4 major skills.
