INTRODUCTION
Teacher-researcher tried to identify the problems in school and solve these problems to improve both pupil learning and teacher effectiveness. It focused on the factors that affect the learning behavior of the grade three pupils. In the process, the study found out that it evolved some factors such as the attitudes of the learners toward learning, the external and internal factors that hinder the pupils’ learning, and the different strategies and methods used by the teachers. The results may be proposed for developing positive learning behavior among pupils. All of these were grounded with authentic and real-life data from observational data gathered and analyzed.
METHODS
The descriptive method of research was employed in this study. It was conducted on groups of 4 grade three teachers and 35 grade three learners as respondents to a 3 semi-structured questionnaire focusing on the attitudes of the learners toward learning, the external and internal factors that hinder pupils’ learning, and the different strategies and methods used by teachers. The results may be proposed for developing a positive learning behavior among pupils.RESULTS35 of the Grade three pupils were observed to have substantial problems which were affecting their learning in relation to the factors listed. The first factor, the attitude towards learning, was still unfavorable. The second factor showed that the external and internal factors such as family economic stability, pressure from peers, teachers' behavior, teachers' method of teaching, instructional materials used, classroom settings and parents' involvement also played a major factor in influencing their learning. All of these were identified through a survey and were tabulated, interpreted, and analyzed. The outcome resulted in poor performance in their academic status.
DISCUSSIONS
The result demonstrates the need to find solutions to the problem. This will help pupils develop positive attitudes in their studies. Teachers and parents both play a major role in arousing pupils' interest in learning through different strategies or techniques used by teachers complemented with the close supervision of the parents to their children. Continued implementation of that proposed solution will help the learners become motivated. In this way, we can help the pupils develop a positive attitude towards learning.
