Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Improving absenteeism and truancy in schools is a top priority in any educational institution. This study focuses on determining the ways Balayong Elementary School can increase and sustain their students' daily attendance the contribution of the family-school-community and other avenues of partnerships to this goal, and the ways these partnerships can continuously improve the less fortunate pupils’ attendance to achieve better performance in school.

METHODS

This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational assistance in the pupils' attendance at Balayong Elementary School. The descriptive qualitative research design was employed. The respondents of the study were the 39 pupils covered under the4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program), ANAWIM, Youth with A Mission (YWAM), The Sisters, and 12 GBA, which comprised 18.23% of the 225-overall population of the school. The researcher used three data gathering procedures namely: observation, surveying, and data analysis available in the Guidance Office. Data gathering tools were also used, namely: the attendance checklist or SF2 and SF4, and the interview.

RESULTS

Findings revealed that the problem can be easily corrected with a little help from the community. The school plays a very important role in bridging and reaching out to the less fortunate families with difficulties in sending their children to school.

Since each program does not expect high ratings, the pupils and parents were able to meet the standards set before them. They are aware that the coordinators in each program are strictly monitoring the pupils' attendance monthly and this lead to avoiding absenteeism throughout the school year.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the SF4 from the guidance office and the interview to their advisers, pupils were motivated to attend classes and to avoid truancy due to the educational assistance they are enlisted. The teacher-adviser also proved that these pupils committed truancy only for important reasons only.
