Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Technology plays such an essential role in today's society. Using information and communication technology (ICT) in the teaching-learning process equips learners with the basic and sophisticated skills needed to compete globally. As part of the Division's mission to make all schools perform with higher learning and to prepare students for global competitiveness, the need for ICT integration in the curriculum must be given primordial consideration. The researcher believes that there is a need to analyze the status of the ICT integration level in the classroom. The results of this study shall serve as the basis for a technology plan in the Division of Lipa City.

METHODS

This study utilized the descriptive research method. The main data gathering instrument used in this study was the questionnaire. Gathering the data using the Survey Questionnaire was done online with the support of the Learning Resource Management, the Development System In-charge, and the Information Technology Officer of the Division. For the in-depth analysis of the data, frequency, percentage and weighted mean were used.

RESULTS

The findings revealed that teachers occasionally use technology to supplement instructions. In terms of infrastructure, classroom technology, and technical support fall under the early tech stage or Level 1. The learners revealed that they acquire knowledge on using the computer through self-discovery. They could operate and manipulate computers even without other people to guide them. On the part of the public schools, the data also revealed that there were computer training undertaken in the schools, but such training were not enough. Majority of the teachers belonged to developing tech level of progress especially in the use of technology applications and in providing web-based learning activities or computer-aided instructional software.

DISCUSSIONS

Due to the belief that students are familiar with technology and they will learn better in a technology-based environment, ICT integration in schools, specifically in the classroom, is vital. Indeed, the use of technology in education contributes a lot in the pedagogical aspects. The application of ICT will lead to effective learning with the help and support from ICT elements and components. Enhancing meaningful learning by integrating technology into the instructional design is central in the delivery of the basic curriculum for the 21st Century. A strategic technological plan which includes setting up 21st-century classrooms could make a great difference for21st-century learners.
