INTRODUCTION
Education of the citizenry is considered as one of the most important elements in nation-building. For this reason, the Philippine government, thru Congress, decided to improve the curriculum being implemented by theDepartment of Education from 10 years of basic education to 12 years in 2012. By adding two more years of basic education, it created the Senior High School program under the Republic Act 10533 or the "Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013" or, simply, the K to 12 program (Sec. 4, RA 10533).
METHODS
This research utilized the quantitative design method in gathering and analyzing data. As the researcher intended to gather relatively limited data from a relatively large number of cases, this method involves determining information about variables rather than about individuals. The researcher also used the descriptive research method in identifying the purpose of the research as it describes the nature of a situation as it exists at the time of the study and as it explores the causes of a particular event (Sevilla, et al., 1992).
RESULTS
Based on the results of the survey conducted, the CNSHS grade 10 students are well aware of the K-12 program of the government. Out of the 60 respondents that answered the survey, all answered yes and that they are aware of the K-12 program of the government. On the factors that influenced their choice for the academic track/strand they are going to take in senior high school, the answers are varied among the four sections of grade 10. The study also included the possible career pathways of students in the strands/tracks that they are about to choose upon enrolling in senior high school.
DISCUSSIONS
Most of the grade 10 students of CNSHS are geared towards enrolling for academic strands with STEM as their track. Based on the survey, the majority of the students will take engineering and medical science-related courses as they go to college. Furthermore, the study has concluded that the Grade 10 students of CNSHS are on the right choice of academic strand and tracks for senior high school since they wanted to take math-and science-based courses in college.
