INTRODUCTION
It has long been recognized that, in the process of learning, the study habits of the student play an important role in their academic performance. Learning is reflected in the way a student responds to his/her environment, to social, emotional and physical stimuli, and how he/she understands new information. This study aimed to analyze the poor study habits among Grade Four Ylang-Ylang pupils of Malaruhatan Elementary School, Malaruhatan, Lian, Batangas
METHODS
This study employed a descriptive method design. The researcher used this to determine the causes for the pupils’ poor study habits and how poor study habits affect the pupils of the Grade Four Ylang Ylang class. Forty-two pupils responded to a set of questions.
RESULTS
The respondents revealed that the family plays a vital part in the study life of a pupil. It is followed by the influenced of friends and, lastly, by their peers. Too much use of gadgets is the main reason for poor study habits among the pupils. Having a bad environment, no time for studies and laziness are some of the other reasons. Informing the parents about their pupil's performance is the first step to solving this problem so that the parents may guide and help their children improve in their studies.
DISCUSSIONS
The results help the parents, students, and the teacher lessen or avoid the use of gadgets during weekdays. The study can improve the pupils’ studies, making them aware of ways to combat their poor study habits. The teachers will be conscious of the strategies and approaches for improving the study habits of the pupils The parents should accompany their children with their studies. The findings of this study will be beneficial to teachers because it will guide them in monitoring their pupils regarding their poor study habits. To the School Heads, this study will be an eye-opener for them and will help them apply strict school rules on the development of their performance. As for the Parents, the study will give them knowledge and more awareness of the reasons for their children’s poor study habits.
