Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Misbehavior is a deliberate action. Contrary to adult rules, a child fully understands those rules and has the capacityto obey them mentally, emotionally and physically. Misbehavior causes disturbances in the classroom and makes it difficult for students to enjoy the educational process. The four possible motives for misbehavior are seeking attention, desire for power, looking for revenge and lack of self-confidence. In addition to these causes, there are other factors that may result in a student’s refusal to act appropriately. They are physiological factors, classroom environment, and problems with the curriculum. This study is intended to analyze the observable behavior of the students.

METHODS

This study utilized the descriptive method of research using a questionnaire in gathering the necessary data. The descriptive method is noted as a reasonable way for the study of the Misbehaviors Committed by the Students in Pedro A. Paterno National High School. The researchers secured permission from the principal to conduct a thorough study of their research. Upon acquiring permission, the questionnaires were answered by the teachers as the respondents.

RESULTS

The result of the study showed that students chatting with their seatmates is the most common behavior observed. In addition, students committed misbehavior due to the influence of their friends. The best effect of misbehavior is the low performance of the students. It has also been found out that the best way to manage misbehavior is the integration of good manners and right conduct. The least utilized strategies are setting classroom rules and expectation and communicating with the parents regularly. Supporting school programs and activities is the best way to help solve the student's misbehavior.

DISCUSSIONS

In this study, the researchers concluded that the most common factor that leads to the misbehavior of the students is their financial problems and family status. They also concluded that the teaching-learning process is affected by misbehavior as manifested in the low performance of the students as well as the class interruption and unfinished lessons due to the lack of time. They recommended that teachers should apply and use techniques suitable to the knowledge of the students. Injecting good manners and right conduct in lessons is also a great help in managing students' misbehavior.
