Alternative Learning System (ALS)Abstract
INTRODUCTION
In today's generation, education is very important because this is the primary prerequisite to have a better future. If we want to have a progressive environment, we must educate our people.
To realize this goal, the Alternative Learning System offers free education to those who cannot afford formal schooling due to various reasons. This program provides a viable alternative to the existing formal education instruction, encompassing both the non-formal and informal sources of knowledge and skills. The objective is to open more educational opportunities for Filipino citizens of different interests, capabilities, demographic characteristics, and status as well as in addressing the needs of marginalized groups.
METHODS
The descriptive survey type of research was used in the study. The data gathering tools used were a questionnaire, interview guide, observation, and documentary analysis.
RESULTS
Majority of the ALS implementers are male, married, have units in MAEd, and almost all have attended the required training by the Bureau of Alternative Learning System. Meanwhile, the majority of ALS learners and parents are female, single, and finished the elementary level. Both of the ALS stakeholders, the learners, and their parents, perceive that ALS in Tabaco City Division is implemented very satisfactorily. The problems encountered in the implementation of the ALS program included the lack of qualified service providers in the community, the service providers’ dislike for the UnifiedService Contracting Scheme, the insufficient learning materials for the learners, and the lack of support from the LGU and barangay officials. There is no significant difference in the assessment of the ALS stakeholders with a curriculum framework.
DISCUSSIONS
To improve the ALS in Tabaco City, stakeholders should pursue their studies in graduate school and learners should continue their studies up to the tertiary level. Continued monitoring and evaluation should be done by the division and regional supervisors. There should also be a massive implementation of the AdSocMob to all sectors of the society. There must be a seminar for the ALS stakeholders, local government unit, and barangay officials.
The profile has no significant relationship along with itscurriculum framework. It is recommended that stakeholders must try out or implement the proposed Train Smart Handbook.
