Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Teachers as human beings cannot excuse themselves from everyday adversities in and out of their teaching profession. Amidst the numerous problems teachers are facing, they still managed to cope with the needs of 21st-century learners. Thus, there is a need to determine the adversity quotient of teachers so that it can tell how one can withstand adversity and how one can overcome it while performing his/her teaching duties and responsibilities. This study was aimed to relate to the adversity quotient of Dr. Stoltz (1997) and the Technical Vocational teachers' teaching performance.

METHODS

The descriptive method of research was used in the study to have a better interpretation of the results and analysis of the investigation. Moreover, percentage, frequency distribution, standard deviation, t-test, and correlational analysis for the statistical treatment of data were used. The respondents consisted of one hundred two (102) TechVoc teachers and one hundred two (102) TechVoc students from three schools; General Mariano Technical High School, Amaya School of Home Industries, and Tanza National Trade School. The study was conducted in S.Y. 2015-2016.

RESULTS

The teacher respondents have a low adversity quotient but demonstrated a high level of teaching performance. There is a statistically significant difference in terms of the domain community linkages and social growth and development. It was found out that there was a significant relationship between designation/ position, educational attainment and teachers' performance in terms of the learning environment. Similarly, designation/ position and years in service significantly relate to teachers' performance in terms of personal, social growth and professional development. Ownership dimension influences teachers' performance in terms of community linkages. Likewise, ownership and endurance dimensions consecutively influence teachers' performance in terms of the learning environment.

DISCUSSIONS

The results demonstrate the need for teachers to enroll in graduate programs. Teachers may devote time and effort to improve their AQ® level by means of reading books and magazines, watching videos related to AQ® through the use of the internet. The school may consider the findings of this study in conducting a faculty development program which will help improve the teachers' adversity quotient. The results of this study may be shared with other educational institutions using a wider range of samples for follow-up studies.
