Advantage and Disadvantage of Using Cellphone in Studying Lessons among the ABM-Malvar Senior High School Students of Padre Garcia National High School

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The use of technology around the world cannot be denied. One of the most popular technologies or gadgets now is the cellphone. This is one of the many things that speed up tasks when using them. That is why people have been free to enjoy it at any age and in any corner of the world. With the passing of time, the gradual development of cellphones led to its use in the field of education.

METHODS

This is a qualitative form of research administered to 40 students of the ABMStrand of the Padre Garcia National High School. The interview questionnaire also consists of the demographic profile of the respondents chosen using the non-random selective sampling method.

RESULTS

Results show that cellphone is used in communication, as revealed by the highest number of students who use social media sites such as Facebook and Messenger. Among the 40 respondents, cellphone usage lasts up to three hours daily. Findings revealed that cellphone speeds up the searching process of lectures and in doing assignments. However, some respondents revealed that using cellphones distracts them from their studies while a few claimed that it has caused them to forget their assignments.

DISCUSSIONS

Public school students are not left behind by the current technological gadgets. Due to the features and applications of the said devices, the students became so engrossed in using them, making them unmindful of the long period of time spent. The internet function of the cellphone enables students to hasten the research process while the communication function serves as its highest advantage. Negative effects of tapping the said devices were also highlighted in the research. Pedagogical implications of using the cellphone were propounded.
