Activity-Based Approaches in Teaching Research Writing among Grade 10 Students of Area IV, Division of Batangas

INTRODUCTION
The K to 12 Curriculum of theDepartment of Education integrates different skills in Research Writing for Grade Ten students. It is one of the main concerns of English Teachers who are responsible for the proper guidance and inculcation of research knowledge among learners. The main objective of Research Writing is to let students experience conducting studies on their own with first-hand experiences and proper instructions from the teacher. The Activity-Based Approaches in Teaching Research Writing is a teaching method where the child is actively involved in participating mentally and physically. Learning by doing is the main focus of this method. This study attempted to determine the different activity-based approaches used in teaching research writing among grade ten students. It also revealed the various learning activities applied to supplement the teaching of research and the problems encountered in teaching and writing research papers.
METHODS
The Descriptive Method was used in conducting this study to describe and analyze the information gathered. It also utilized a survey questionnaire as the primary tool in gathering data. The study also used some of the statistical tools such as frequency, rank, percentage, and weighted mean to interpret the result of the survey.
RESULTS
Findings showed that the frequently used activity-based approach in teaching research writing was the take-home activity, ranking first among others. Meanwhile, the study revealed that referring to textbooks was considered to be an effective learning activity applied to supplement the teaching of research because it primarily supports the curriculum. The fifty (50) teacher-respondents disclosed that classroom management, minimal resources, poor student motivation, lack of time, lack of teaching approaches, lack of training and seminars, and poor achievement of learning outcome are the common problems of teachers in teaching research writing to Grade ten. Furthermore, the lack of resources, lack of enthusiasm, lack of time, lack of background in doing research, and poor research skills were detected as common problems encountered in writing a research paper by the fifty (50) student-respondents.
DISCUSSIONS
The Proposed Measures to address the problems in teaching how to write research papers were formulated to serve as a reference to the readers. This output was based on the findings of the study.
