Abstract

INTRODUCTION

This study was designed to activate the retention performance of the Senior High School students of Sta. Catalina Integrated National High School in Municipality of Majayjay in the province of Laguna. The respondents of the study were 47 Electrical and Installation Maintenance senior high school students.

METHODS

The descriptive method of research was used to determine the strategies used to activate the retention performance of the students in Mathematics of the Sta. Catalina Integrated National High School for the School Year 2017-2018. It was used for finding new truths in different forms such as the increased quantity of knowledge, new generalizations or new techniques which may increase insight into more accurate formulation of solutions to the problem (Zulueta, 2014). Purposive sampling was utilized in the selection of the respondents. A total of 47 students were selected for the sample and they were Grade 11 students from the Electrical Installation and Maintenance section. The Pre-test measured the students’ highest performance in terms of academic activity. The data gathered from each teacher in terms of the academic performance of the Senior High School students were treated using the mean standard deviation. The mean and standard were used to determine the mean level of academic performance in Mathematics of the students in terms of their general average.

RESULTS

The result shows that the posttest of the EIM students increased in Simplifying Variables with an MPS of 72.59% while in Problem solving, their MPS was 68.6%. In addition, the comparison of the MPS result between the Pretest and the Posttest in EIM -11 Statistics and Probability indicates that the Pretest in problem-solving has an MPS of 52.00% while in the Posttest, there was an increase in their MPS with 68.00 %. The overall findings showed that by activating the retention task of the students, it will improve their academic performance in terms of their general average.

DISCUSSIONS

The overall findings showed that to activate the retention task of the students is to improve their academic performance in terms of their general average. This study will help the Sta. Catalina Integrated National High School management because, through the result of this study, they will realize that there should be a plan to encourage students to learn more and to become interested in studying Mathematics.
