INTRODUCTION
Classroom diversity may have negative effects on the teaching-learning situation and the learners. This situation poses a challenge to the teachers as it may interfere with the establishment of a positive classroom climate which is considered as a factor that facilitates the transfer of learning. This study deals with the management practices teachers utilize in coping with classroom diversity. It outlines and specifies the extent of the classroom diversity observed by the teachers and the extent on how the teachers manage classroom diversity using instructional strategies. It also determines the interrelationship among the variables and suggests an action plan to improve instructional strategies to promote classroom diversity.
METHODS
The research design used in the study was the descriptive method. A survey questionnaire was made to determine how teachers manage classroom diversity, specifically through effective classroom management practices and the selection of instructional strategies and classroom activities that will help minimize the negative effects of diversity. The data gathered were analyzed and interpreted through the use of different statistical tools.
RESULTS
There is sufficient evidence of diversity among the pupils in the classroom based on the teachers' assessment of their interest, behavior, cultural traces, intellectual capability, and social traits. The teachers are competent in managing classroom diversity, as exemplified by their effective utilization of teaching strategies, motivation techniques, evaluation process, enrichment activities and provision of rewards and recognition for the pupils' exemplary performances. Classroom diversity has no significant effect on the pupils' obtained grade point average, but the teachers' management of classroom diversity significantly affects the turning of grade point average to an above satisfactory level; hence, there is a significant relationship between classroom diversity and management.
DISCUSSIONS
The satisfactory performance of the pupils based on their attained grade point average must be maintained or even improved further through the teachers' consistent monitoring in the process of developing their varied competencies. Through instruction and implementation of varied classroom and school activities, it will minimize if not totally eradicate the negative effects of diversity.
