Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Gulod Senior High School (GSHS), Batangas City Division complies with Republic Act 10553, or the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum. It is a standalone institution offering Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Automotive, Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) and cookery. The level of accomplishment of senior high school program objectives, the extent of employability, their relationship and an Action Plan from them were the concerns of the researcher.

METHODS

Descriptive-correlational research methods enabled the description of the two variables and assessment of the relationship between them. Thirty (30) respondents: six (6) each from the five stands offered by GSHS enrolled in the schoolyear 2017-2018 selected purposively were the respondents. Administration of a two-part questionnaire which employed a 5-point scale was made to gather data which were treated with weighted mean and ranking (descriptive statistics) and Pearson's r (inferential statistics).

RESULTS

As found out, SHS programs as to instruction, training resources and facilities and assessment were all highly accomplished because of the trained teachers, provision of skills development resources and use of standardized tools in the assessment. SHS students were found highly employable after developing required skills, competencies and values demanded by the local and global labor market. Indicators of the independent variable were found significantly related except for training resources/facilities found not related to values development.

DISCUSSIONS

The Proposed Action Plan addressed the problems encountered by the senior high school program of GNHS. Conclusions include that the teachers are trained, supplied with training resources/facilities and use standardized assessments. SHS students are employable due to skills, competence, and values demanded by the labor market. Training resources/facilities do not predict values development, while the independent variable predicts employability. Continued teachers' training, use of training resources/facilities and standardized assessment tool, having tie-ups and affiliation with agencies, use of training resources/facilities for values development, implementation of the Action Plan with funds and manpower and conducting a future study are recommended.
